Tell lawmakers dairy drives Wisconsin so 'America's Dairyland' must stay

Hello everyone,

You may have heard about a proposal by a state lawmaker to remove the "America's Dairyland" slogan from motor vehicle license plates.

The suggestion was made last month by the president of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. Last week, Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha, circulated a proposed bill that would have high school students create a new design and slogan for the plates.

On Friday, the DBA sent a letter to each member of the state Legislature urging them to oppose any such bill should it be introduced. The letter was also distributed to news media.

DBA President Mike North wrote in the letter:

"We have a brand. It is viewed positively by the overwhelming majority of people. We have spent more than a century and a lot effort and money to create this brand. It does not make sense to back away from it."

We need to stop this idea in its tracks.

Contact your lawmakers and tell them there is no slogan more fitting for our state than "America's Dairyland." Dairy drives Wisconsin so we need to save the slogan.

Here's how to reach your lawmakers:

  • Call or email. For contact information, visit the Legislature's website and enter your address under "Who Are My Legislators" at the right side of the page.
  • Re-tweet our graphic from our Twitter feed and/or create your own tweets using the hashtags "DairyDrivesWisconsin" and "SaveTheSlogan" and tag your lawmakers.

This is also an opportune time to circulate your own personal connections to the dairy community.

Let's stand loud and proud in "America's Dairyland"!

Thank you
