Wisconin's Dairy Industry Plans Growth
Despite times of nationwide economic uncertainty, one Wisconsin industry looks forward with confidence to a sustainable future. The state’s most progressive dairy industry organization, the Dairy Business Association (DBA), recently polled 40 dairy producer members and found that they have plans to invest more than $116 million into expansion projects in the next six months.

DBA Plans CAFO Workshops and Webconferences
Individuals involved with seeking and securing permits for growing livestock operations are invited to attend the Confined Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) workshops and webconferences throughout June and July organized by the Dairy Business Association in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and University of Wisconsin – Extension.

Loss in Immigrant Labor Force Means Loss for Wisconsin's Economy
Wisconsin’s economy could lose $7 billion and 40,000 jobs if federal immigration policy is not reformed, according to an estimate from the National Milk Producers Federation. A drop in milk output due to a partial loss of the labor force, combined with the potential decline in dairy processing, could be the result if the need for farm workers is not considered in immigration policy reform. Approximately 30 percent of Wisconsin’s dairy work force is hired, and NMPF gauges that half of those workers are immigrants.

DBA Supports EPA's Revisions to Clean Water Act
Recent changes proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) could mean good news for growing and expanding dairy and livestock operations in the state of Wisconsin, according to the Dairy Business Association (DBA). The revision introduced to the EPA’s Clean Water Act could change the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program’s permitting process to allow operators to self-certify their dairy and livestock facilities as “no discharge,” meaning that they do not plan to discharge into the state’s waterways.

DBA Pleased with DNR's Air Emissions Extension
MADISON - On February 27, 2008, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) board members unanimously approved NR 445, thereby extending the enforcement date of rules that might have required livestock producers to invest significant amounts of revenue on untested practices or equipment which may not have met compliance under these new state and federal air emissions standards.

Meissner Named DBA President
Madison, Wis., December 6, 2007 – Jerry Meissner, a dairy producer from Chili, Wis., was named president of Wisconsin’s Dairy Business Association yesterday. “I look forward to the leadership Jerry will bring to DBA,” said Laurie Fischer, DBA Executive Director. Meissner owns Norm-E-Lane, Inc., a 1,800-cow dairy farm near Chili, Wis., with his brother David, son Josh and nephew Jeremy. The farm has been in the Meissner family since 1950 and has grown to about 4,000 acres.

DBA Writes Letter to Wisconsin Congressional Delegation Opposing U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s “No-Match” Rules

Another Victory for DBA and Siting Legislation
After listening to two hours of testimony from concerned citizens, the Vernon County Board voted against adoption of a moratorium that would have prevented livestock operations with over 500 animal units from expanding in Vernon County. The vote passed by an overwhelming count of 23-6.

Town Officials Force Farmer to Appeal Excessive Permit Requirements

Miller Park Flushes Human Fecal Waste into the Menomonee River

DBA Applauds Governor’s Commitment to Cheese Industry
The Dairy Business Association (DBA) applauds the efforts of Governor Jim Doyle for his announcement of the Dairy Plant Investment Tax Credit in his 2007-09 Biennial Budget Address. The proposed tax credits are in the amount of 10%, up to $200,000, of investments aimed at modernizing and expanding dairy manufacturing facilities. The incentives run through 2014.
