Are automated feeders in your future?

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Automated calf feeders have grown in popularity in recent years due to numerous benefits such as labor flexibility, and improved ability to deliver a higher plane of nutrition.

UW-Extension Fond du Lac and UW-Extension Washington and Ozaukee Counties will each be hosting an one-half day “Calf Insight: Are Automated Feeders in Your Future?” Calf Management Meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2018. The morning session (10 am to 12 noon) will be held at UW-Extension Washington County, 333 E. Washington St., West Bend. The afternoon session (1 pm to 3 pm) will be held at UW-Extension Fond du Lac County, 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac.

Featured presenters will focus on various aspects of utilizing automated calf feeding systems within one’s calf management program. Speakers and topics include: UW-Extension Dairy Facilities Specialist Dave Kammel on “Design & Management of Group Pen Calf Barns”; Milk Products, Inc. National Accounts Manager Skip Olson, DMV will share “Automated Calf Feeders: Considerations & Expectations”; and UW-Extension Dairy Agents Tina Kohlman & Steph Plaster on “Cost of Raising Calves: Automated Systems versus Traditional Feeding.”

The program is open to any individuals with interest regarding automated calf feeders. There is no fee for the program; however, pre-registration by January 23rd is strongly encouraged to ensure materials and light refreshments. Refreshments will be provided by Hubbard Feeds.
